Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. .
Romans 15:13

What is a "Church of Pathetic Losers?"
Are you a loser, rebel, sell-out, liar, thief, adulterer, or at best…unlikely to be chosen to be part of a church? Do you wish you had a place to belong? Are you far from perfect and make a lot of mistakes? A failure? A sinner? If so, then you are the person we are looking for at Hope Church. In fact...you are who Jesus is looking for.
Did you know that Jesus Christ didn’t pick religious, I’ve-got-it-all-together people to be his disciples? Nope…instead he picked individuals with bad reputations, tax collectors, adulterers and other broken people. Actually, it is those who recognize their pathetic loser status that are perfect for the Kingdom. His twelve disciples, the leaders in His church, were former trouble-makers, outcasts, sell-outs and sinners.
Alistair Begg once made a comment that we are all “pathetic losers” who don’t have the power and don’t have the wisdom to know what to do next. I think that is a very profound statement. Many times our pride…our desire to put up a false-front that we are ok…that American ‘pretending’ that we have it all together, that causes us to fight against the notion of being a “pathetic loser.” Being a loser is bad enough, but a pathetic loser? The truth is we are pathetic losers…and without Christ, we’re sunk.
Jesus said, “Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it” (Mark 8:35). In the Kingdom of God, all the values of the world are reversed. The way up is down. The last shall be first. The least will be the greatest. The servants will be the leaders. This is why we want people who can admit that they are pathetic losers at Hope church.
Pathetic Losers are able to worship in Spirit and in Truth (John 4). We worship in Spirit when we surrender every part of our lives to the King. You can only do this when you are at the end of your rope and need hope. We worship in Truth when we recognize not only WHO Jesus is, but when we recognize that we are in desperate need of his grace and forgiveness. These are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
Wanted: People who are used, broken, rejected, have messed up, are spiritually and/or emotionally bankrupt. Welcome to Hope!
